Everyone seems to be chasing Mona Hsia-Hwang. The opening scene has her being pursued a cornered by a cop, who molests her with his pistol. She gives into his attentions, then shoots him, establishing her credentials as a femme fatale. We then meet Mona's young cousin May, being picked up by Mona's husband's adopted son Li Wai Wai. Wai is the smouldering sullen type, whom May fancies almost immediately. Trouble is, Wai is secretly in love (read : in lust) with Mona. Mona tends to the bodily functions of her sick and elderly husband Hwang Fei Hung. Fei Hung has a heart condition, and is under medical orders to avoid excitement. But, with a wife as luscious as Rena M, how is this possible ?! And he's a lecherous old bastard, always pitifully begging Mona for sex. It doesn't take a genius to work out that Mona can't wait for the old guy to pass away and get his money. She even has a go at convincing Fei Hung's attorney Mr Chen to reveal the terms of the old guy's will, by removing her stockings and proving that she wore no knickers. Yet another man is after Mona. Chiu is a tough cop (and a very nasty piece of work) who used to be Mona's protector, and he wants her back, though it's pretty clear he only wants the money she'd inherit.
1941 Hong Kong on Fire tells the story of a family affected by the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong during World War II. The movie begins with an interesting approach, using interviews and newsreel footage to set up the story, but this more serious, documentary-like approach is let down by some very dopey comedy. In fact, the first half-hour or so is much more of a family "dramedy" rather than the usual blood and boobs one expects from Wong Jing. But all of that changes in one scene. A guy comes in and announces "the Japanese devils are coming", and sure enough, within thirty seconds, they kick in the doors and proceed to rape and kill everyone.

A young man named Tae-suk, whose only possession is a powerful motorcycle, spends his time riding around the city looking for empty apartments. After finding one, he hangs out for a while, fixing himself something to eat and washing laundry or making small repairs in return. He always tries to leave before the owners get back but he isn’t always successful. In one ostensibly empty mansion he meets the abused wife of a rich man. She joins him…. Kim Ki-duk shot the movie in a very short time and has, in his own unusual way, created a meditation on violence, injustice, and cruelty in which roles are reversed.
